Mark Rodrigues, Chief Engineer at New Wave Entertainment says: "New Wave Entertainment and Fairlight have a long history of working together and the key word here is ‘together’. Unlike most other companies in the Post Production business Fairlight provides hands on service with frequent software upgrades. We recently upgraded from Dream consoles to new EVO consoles. The EVO system is quite possibly the best Product to hit the audio Post Production industry in decades. The audio quality is unmatched and the Xynergi surface is the most powerful audio editor around. The built in Pyxis with 3D capability and dual video tracks is a must in our business and I don’t know how we lived without it before. The ability to import and export Quicktime files for approvals is a huge time saver."

Fairlight Technology

Fairlight CMI
The Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument) is a digital sampling synthesizer. It was designed in 1979 by the founders of Fairlight, Peter Vogel and Kim Ryrie, and based on a dual-6800 microprocessor computer designed by Tony Furse in Sydney, Australia. It rose to prominence in the early 1980s and competed in the market with the Synclavier from New England Digital.

In August 2009, Peter Vogel launched a new company, called Fairlight Instruments (
www.fairlightinstruments.com.au), with the objective of developing a 'retro' CMI-30A (30th Anniversary). This system has the look and feel of the 1979 CMI, complete with green screen and light pen. The new CMI is unique in that it produces the classic “Fairlight sound” that defined music of the eighties as well as the modern Fairlight sound — that of uncompromising signal purity. The technology used in the new Fairlight CMI comes from Fairlight Australia – including the Crystal Core engine which lies at the heart of the system.  Fairlight Australia was contracted to produce the software for Peter’s new CMI.

This is the same Crystal Core media processor (CC-1) used in the Fairlight range of top-end digital audio workstations. The CC-1 uses FPGA (field-programmable gate array) to achieve performance far in excess of what can be achieved using even the fastest digital signal processor of conventional design.

We here at Fairlight are extremely pleased to have worked with Peter on this project. It represents our pride in the history and tradition ofover 30 years of Fairlight Digital Audio products !! !
